1 Samuel 24

Theme of chapter: Saul catches up to David and his men at Engedi. Saul rests in a cave, where David lays in wait. God delivers Saul into David's hand be he doesn't kill him for respect of his office.

Most important verse: 1 Samuel 24:6 And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

Most prominent word: Engedi (spring of young goat)

Teaching about Christ: The Lord sets the basest of men up to rule over us.

Command to obey: Respect the office if not the person who rules over you.

Promise to claim: Christ is the great deliverer as well as judge.

New truth learned: David had his chance to kill Saul once and for all, but he doesn't. Out of respect for the office of King, that God has anointed he refrains from killing him. He allows God to exact judgement on Saul.
