1 Samuel 20

Theme of chapter: Jonathan has a covenant with David to protect him against his father. Saul continues to try to kill David, and ultimately David has to flee.

Most important verse: 1 Samuel 20:3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.

Most prominent word: confusion(shame; disgrace; humiliation)

Teaching about Christ: God shows kindness to us, not because there is any good in us, but because of what Christ did for us.

Command to obey: Seek the Lord today. Stay far from jealousy as it can ruin a man.

Promise to claim: Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, we are one step or one heartbeat away from eternity.

New truth learned: Saul knows that David is anointed to be king, and is doing everything he can to kill him. Jonathan's loyalty is to David, not to his father Saul, even though it means he will not succeed Saul to be king.
