1 Samuel 2

Theme of chapter: Hannah begins with a prayer of praise to God and how mighty he is. Samuel grows up in the house of Eli, the high priest. His children are son's of the devil and do much evil, but Samuel isn't influenced. A prophet comes to tell Eli both of his sons will die on the same day.

Most important verse: 1 Samuel 2:3Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

Most prominent word: fleshhook (meat fork)

Teaching about Christ: Christ would put down the proud, and raise up the meek.

Command to obey: Do not be arrogant or proud. What you have, God gave you.

Promise to claim: There is none holy or righteous except Jesus Christ. Nothing is done in secret, God sees/knows all things. Judgement comes to the unrepentant sinner.

New truth learned: This brought an end to the priest age and a beginning of the king age, as the high priests were replaced by prophets and the people formerly ruled by theocracy begin to be ruled by monarchy.
