Judges 8

Theme of chapter: Gideon and his army defeat the Midianite kings after chasing them down. The people of Israel now want him to be their king, he refuses. After Gideon dies, Israel goes right back into idol worship.

Most important verse: Judges 8:23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

Most prominent word: ephod (garment of a priest used for adornment and as an aid in priestly service)

Teaching about Christ: Christ did not want Israel to have a king, he was their king.

Command to obey: Repent of your sins daily.

Promise to claim: You can't hide from God, and you definitely can't hide from judgement.

New truth learned: In each of these cycles of rebellion against God, as soon as the Judge dies, the people of Israel go right back to sinning. Also, Gideon was a weak coward, and God used him, he also fathered some 70 children with many wives. It shows there's hope for all of us that God can use us, if he can use the likes of Gideon.
