Judges 7

Theme of chapter: God gives Gideon and the people of Israel victory over the Midianites.

Most important verse: Judges 7:2 And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

Most prominent word: victuals (food; provisions; supplies)

Teaching about Christ: Power comes from Christ, not material things or people.

Command to obey: Trust in Christ not in people or possessions.

Promise to claim: God gets the victory not man.

New truth learned: The original number of the army with Gideon was 30,000. They widdled it down to 300 as God said that he couldn't give them the victory with 30,000 because they would think they won of their own might. The 300 with Gideon take trumpets and lamps in the middle of the night upon the hill. They shown the lamps below and sounded the trumpets. The Midianites were sent in a panic in the dark killing each other off and fleeing, as they thought a great army was upon them. The armies of Israel gathered after this and routed them. It is by God's hand there is victory not by mans.
