Joshua 5

Theme of chapter: Deborah the judge and Barak rejoice in their victory.

Most important verse: Joshua 5:23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.

Most prominent word: Barak (lightning)

Teaching about Christ: the preincarnate Christ curses the person or family that wouldn't help out when Israel fought against their enemy. I wouldn't want to live anywhere near these folks.

Command to obey: stand up and fight for your country when it is being attacked. don't be cowardly or go about your business' as if nothing is going on.

Promise to claim: evil and unrepentant sin will be judged

New truth learned: many of the tribes would not help out when Israel was fighting a common enemy. they were just going about their business or too cowardly to participate. Shows how weak the tribes became after Joshua died.
