Judges 3

Theme of chapter: Several cycles here of falling away, crying out, and judges being raised. The judges raised in 3 such cycles were Othniel, Ehud, and Shamgar.

Most important verse: Judges 3:31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.

Most prominent word: ox goad (cattle prod; metal tipped poker used to guide animals;)

Teaching about Christ: Christ can use ordinary men for his purposes.

Command to obey: don't see if God is on your side, make sure you are on God's side.

Promise to claim: man can't do very much, but man plus God can accomplish anything.

New truth learned: God used ordinary men to perform extraordinary feats for him. One man was risen up as a judge with the only redeeming characteristic mentioned, is that he was left handed.
