Judges 2

Theme of chapter: And thus begins the cycle of Israel forsaking God and going after idols and rebelling, then God enslaves the people and brings great distress among them. They cry out, turn to God and repent. God then raises a judge to deliver them. This repeats throughout Judges.

Most important verse: Judges 2:18 And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

Most prominent word: judges (leaders; defenders; avenged; vindicate)

Teaching about Christ: the angel of the Lord is the preincarnate Christ who came to ask of the people of Israel why they are sinning against him, and telling them of their judgement.

Command to obey: do not stray from the will and word of God. that is a dangerous place.

Promise to claim: judgement comes always, to the unrepentant sinner.

New truth learned: people left unto themselves without God, will quickly fall into great sin. God and his Word are needed for instruction for the daily life of the pilgrim.
