Theme of chapter: God gives the people of Israel a stern warning against becoming proud and forgetting about God.
Most important verse: Deuteronomy 8:
5 Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. (God disciplines us just as parents discipline their children.)
Most prominent word: chasteneth (to correct; discipline)
Teaching about Christ: Christ disciplines his own.
Command to obey: Obey God and judge yourself of your sins, to avoid being disciplined by the Father.
Promise to claim: God is our Father in heaven and he will discipline his children.
New truth learned: During the 40 year march the peoples garments did not wear out and their feet did not swell. (Feet swelling coming from eating the same food and not getting proper nutrients). God cared for his people and they didn't need for anything.
