Deuteronomy 31

Theme of chapter: Moses is 120 years old and isn't allowed to go into the promised land. God has chosen Joshua to lead the people to the promised land. God tells Moses that as soon as they enter the land they will start worshipping Idols and God will punish them.

Most important verse: Deuteronomy 31:20 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant. (Much like in our affluent society, we have so much we think we don't need God or minimally don't think much about him, unless some tragedy befall us, and then it's down on our knees until the tragedy passes, and then its back to business as usual.)

Most prominent word: latter days (speaks of the end of the age; end of the period of grace)

Teaching about Christ: Christ's return is the only thing that will bring peace to Israel.

Command to obey: the path to destruction is wide and easy, stay in the Word and trust Jesus Christ.

Promise to claim: the people of Israel will be trodden until Jesus returns, because of their unbelief in Christ and their disobedience to God.

New truth learned: Moses encourages his people to be strong and courageous as God is with them in entering the land. He didn't want a repeat performance of 40 years ago, when they were too scared to obey God and take the land.
