Deuteronomy 7

Theme of chapter: A new generation is set to move in to the promised land. God gives them temporal material blessings based on their obedience.

Most important verse: Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; (The Lord is the one true God.)

Most prominent word: graven image (idol; carved image; these were an abomination to God and he utterly destroyed these people by the hand of Israel)

Teaching about Christ: Christ loves and cares for his own.

Command to obey: Obedience is reciprocating love to God.

Promise to claim: If God be with you, who can stand against you.

New truth learned: All of Israel's blessings here, and there were many, were contingent upon their obedience to God's laws. If they fell into idolatry they would be destroyed as were the other people's.
