Theme of chapter: Moses recounts the law given to Israel.
Most important verse: Deuteronomy 5:15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day. (The sabbath day was for the people of Israel, a remembrance of God freeing them from slavery)
Most prominent word: commandments (order; prescription; instruction)
Teaching about Christ: The commandments are a mirror to show a person that he is a sinner, and is to draw him unto the cross for forgiveness.
Command to obey: The 10 commandments are given here.
Promise to claim: Walking in the ways of the Lord and obeying his commandments as best as possible for sinful man, will prolong your life.
New truth learned: The people of Israel talked the talk, but didn't walk the walk. They said they wanted to do the will of God, just tell them what to do, but they fell into idolatry and other wickedness anyway.
