John 8

Theme of chapter: Jesus teaches more in a temple at the Mount of Olives. The Pharises bring Jesus a woman caught in adultery. Jesus scorns the sinful Pharises and they go away in shame. He tells the harlot to sin no more. Jesus continues to teach of heavenly things, the Pharises are insulted and want to kill him.

Most important verse: John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. (without belief in Christ there is no life)

Most prominent word: I am (a reference of diety; that Jesus was claiming to be God)

Teaching about Christ: Jesus can free you from sin. Removes the power of sin out of your life. He taught that if anyone sin, they are a servant of sin and a slave. The servant doesn't live in the house forever, but the son does. Meaning if you have Christ you are a son, otherwise your just a slave to sin.

Command to obey: trust Christ, don't be a servant to sin.

Promise to claim: Jesus is truth and his Word is truth. You can trust in him and every word in the bible.

New truth learned: Jesus spoke of spiritual things to the Pharises, but the Pharises were not spiritual at all and took everything Jesus said in fleshly material ways and really didn't understand a thing he was saying to them. The same is true for us, we have to worship the Lord in spirit.
