Theme of chapter: The Jewish feast of tabernacles was at hand, Jesus went up in secret and taught in the temple. There were great discussions about him whether he was the Christ or not, and the Jews sought to kill him.
Most important verse: John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (this speaks of the will of man and also election. 'any man' refers to anyone who desires the saving grace of God can come and be saved. 'thirst' refers to election and the people God calls.)
Most prominent word: feast (festival; joyous gathering of people for the celebrations of the Jewish calendar year)
Teaching about Christ: Christ taught that the 10 commandments were a mirror to show people they are sinners in the eye's of God and need of a savior. Jesus being that savior.
Command to obey: Trust in Jesus today for salvation. Judge rightly in daily affairs.
Promise to claim: Jesus is the true bread and water. Belief on him grants everlasting life.
New truth learned: Jesus is in complete control. The Jews want to arrest him repeatedly, but can't because God's providence won't allow it. Only when the appointed time comes, does God permit it.
