John 2

Theme of chapter: Jesus performs his first miracle, turning water into wine. Later he runs out the merchants and money changers in the temple.

Most important verse: John 2:24But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, (Jesus knew their hearts that they had no real faith that he was who he said he was. They were just amazed by the miracles.)

Most prominent word: commit (to believe; to put ones faith in; trust)

Teaching about Christ: Christ prophesied at the very beginning of his death and resurrection, when he told the Jews to destroy the temple and he would raise it in 3 days. Of course the Jews thought he was talking about the building, not Jesus' body as the temple.

Command to obey: Repent daily of your sins, and pray for regeneration of the Holy Spirit.

Promise to claim: God hates sin, and he gave his son to die for our sins.

New truth learned: There is a spiritual lesson here. The beat-up old waterpots that were filled with water and then turned to wine, represent us. We are the empty water pots, the water is the word of God. Once we're filled with the word then we can be ladled out. And that water becomes the wine of joy. Being saved doesn't give you happiness, it gives you joy.
