John 6

Theme of chapter: Jesus performs more miracles.

1. miracle of feeding a multitude with 5 barley loaves and two small fishes.

2. miracle of walking on water to his disciples ship.

Jesus then told his disciples in spiritual terms, that he was the Christ and that he would lay his life down for them. Many didn't believe and turned away.

Most important verse: 47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. (the Gospel encapsulated in one sentence)

Most prominent word: miracle (a sign; signal; wonder)

Teaching about Christ: Jesus taught that he was the Christ that came down from heaven, to lay his life down for all to be saved. Those who believe on him will have everlasting life in heaven.

Command to obey: Be a true disciple. Trust in the Lord for salvation and not works.

Promise to claim: Those who trust in Jesus, will be raised in the end to reign with him.

New truth learned: Jesus knew Judas would betray him from the very beginning, as he mentions him here as being a devil. Jesus is in complete control, and his life isn't taken, but he lays his life down.
