Theme of chapter: Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well, speaks with her and she is saved. Jesus moves on and performs his second miracle, restoring a sick boy about to die in Capernaum.
Most important verse: John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (belief upon Christ grants eternal life with him in heaven.)
Most prominent word: Christ (Anointed one; Messiah; )
Teaching about Christ: Christ knows everything about us. You don't approach him as a righteous man, you approach him as a repentant sinner and upon your acceptance of him, grants you your pardon.
Command to obey: Repent of your sins daily. Worry not but pray to God in Jesus name for all things.
Promise to claim: Jesus is the Messiah and the savior of the world. His signs and wonders testify to who he is and who sent him.
New truth learned: Jesus treats the self known sinner much differently than the so called righteous. As you can see the different way he treated Nicodemus vs. this Samaritan woman. He treated Nicodemus very harshly, and only had harsh things to say about and to the religious rulers of that day. He treats the Samaritan woman with compassion, and gets at her curiousity and ultimately to her repentant heart.
