John 15

Theme of chapter: Jesus preaches to his disciples about fruit bearing Christians and ones that don't.

Most important verse: John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (only through Christ can we accomplish anything)

Most prominent word: abide (to stay; remain; live; dwell)

Teaching about Christ: A Christians works are a reflection of his salvation and fellowship with Christ. An obedient child in Christ should produce fruit, ones that don't are set aside by God. Works don't get you to heaven, but are a manifestation of having Christ in you.

Command to obey: Show your love of Christ by obeying his commandments. Love one another, and sacrifice for your friends.

Promise to claim: The world hates Christ, and if you follow Christ the world will hate you.

New truth learned: The Word of God makes you clean. Reading and meditating on the Word cleans you from a dirty world. Christ is the vine and we are the branches, we can do nothing without the vine.
